Motivation Monday / Mindset Monday

We came upon this quote the other day and it really stood out to us. We felt the urge to share it with you all.

Why is a healthy mindset so important?

So many of us don’t realize the power that our minds have over our bodies. Our outlook on life and our mindset truly directly correlates to how our bodies react to things.

Have you ever noticed that when you’re stressed a certain part of your body physically reacts?

When I was a kid, I used to get the worst stomach aches. Whenever I didn’t want to go to school for a certain reason or I was stressed about a situation with a friend, my stomach would physically react to the degree that I would make myself sick. As I grew up and realized what was going on, I was able to take control of my body and stop this unnecessary pain.

Now, I carry the stress in my jaw. Whenever I am stressed, my jaw clenches as a natural reflex (and not a good one) and my mind has to actively loosen up my jaw as a result.

I was talking to my grandma the other day and she was telling me how she noticed she coughs when she’s stressed. She gets these uncontrollable coughing fits when bad news comes her way. For example, she found out that her sister hasn’t been feeling well and had to go to the hospital - and then, came the uncontrollable cough. When she’s calm, she’s able to control it and her body feels more at ease. How crazy is that?

They also say that if God Forbid, you are sick with something serious, having a positive mindset and a community of people around you to support you is key to overcoming the terrible disease. Your mindset can literally control how and if you recover from certain illnesses (of course, not everything is that simple but having a positive mindset can only help).

There’s 5 Blue Zones in the world.

Sardinia, Italy

  1. Okinawa, Japan

  2. Nicoya, Costa Rica

  3. Loma Linda, California, USA

  4. Ikaria, Greece

Do you know what these places have in common?

WAY longer life expectancy and a significant amount of centennials (MUCH higher than average).

Why?

Well, these areas have strong communities. When people have a strong community around them, they feel a sense of belonging, which leaves a wonderfully positive effect on the mind.

Now… I know what you’re thinking: Easier said than done, right?

100% agreed. It is definitely easier said than done. BUT what are some ways that you can bring about a healthy mindset?

  • Going for a walk - It’s cold here in NJ but bundle up and go on that walk! Breath some fresh air and take in the beautiful scenery. Hikes are wonderful too!

  • Take a bath

  • Meditate

  • Read a book

  • Detox from social media and screen-time

  • Exercise
