Popcorn Date Night Experiment

For COVID Valentine’s day in March, Elan planned a wonderful date for just the two of us involving Maya’s favorite treat: popcorn. She was always a fan of a certain kind of popcorn and probably due to COVID (it has since returned to stores more recently), it was out of stock in all stores. Elan designed a beautiful experiment to figure out how we can make homemade popcorn. He marked down the results in an excel to see the best recipe for popcorn. Snack time is now the best time!
The categories were as follows:
Oil
Avocado Oil
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Sesame Oil
Coconut Oil
Volume of Oil
1 tablespoon
2 tablespoons
3 tablespoons
4 tablespoons (which we never even got to)
Unsalted Organic Butter
None
½ tablespoons
1 tablespoon
2 tablespoons
Volume of Salt:
A sprinkle
¼ teaspoon
½ teaspoon
1 teaspoon
Our overall results were as follows for 1 cup of popcorn kernels. We encourage you all to try this experiment at home and let us know what you like best!
· Avocado Oil (coconut oil was a close second!)
· 2 tablespoons of oil
· No butter
· ¼ teaspoon of salt
Overall recipe details are as follows:
Heat oil in a pot (medium-high heat)
Put 3 kernels in and wait to for them to pop
Once they do, add in the rest of the kernels, cover the pot, and remove from fire for 30 seconds.
Return pot to the fire after 30 seconds and crack open the lid a bit.
Once popping begins, shake the pot gently.
Once the popping is only 3 seconds apart, remove from heat. Add salt on top.
